Digging into GA I've put together a profile of the average visitor to Fulfilling Dreams from the past month.
- Country: US
- Gender: Female
- Age: 18-24 OR 35-44 (both are represented equally)
- Lifestyle type: Social media enthusiast
- Buys products related to: Employment
- Interested in: Art & Entertainment, specifically TV&Video
But, as my professors like to say, what are the insights? Data is after all useless unless you know how to use them. What I want to do is keep people coming to my site and have them engage with, that is read, my posts. So I don't actually care about the average user who finds me through social or search channels. I care about those who are spending time on my site. Those people are:
- Country: USA
- Gender: Female
- Age: 25-34
- Lifestyle type: Social media enthusiast
- Buys products related to: employment
- Interested in: Arts & Entertainment/TV & Video/Online Video (with a second highest interest in Books & Literature/Writers Resources which directly relates to my site)
I wonder how skewed this is actually since that's essentially...well...me. And I know I visit my own site a lot. But interests are the same across various targets.
This means that 1) I really, really need to be more social on social media. Not just posting, but probably linking as well. Especially to popular, larger posts like my monthly book reviews because those always do well and drive traffic for awhile. I should also talk a bit more about the media I'm consuming, because that's an interest to people. 2) Because people like video, I should try to link or embed videos in my posts from time to time.
I am choosing to ignore the fact that many of my users are looking for employment related products, because I'm not in that industry at. all. But a future post, once things are rolling, about the situation of income generating from writing, would be gold.
