The Art of Marketing
Marketing captured my attention in undergrad, when advertisements morphed from TV show disruptions to mini videos with themes I could relate to and music I had to download. I started seeing marketing as an integrated dance, carrying a message through multiple media channels in an effort to achieve maximum reach and share a story. Ads made me smile, made me laugh, made me desire and I knew I had to work in marketing.
My education just made me fall in love with it more. It's always changing, evolving with the Internet, and learning how to use new media channels is a welcome challenge. Marketing is also so very powerful, not just because it stimulates a want for a product, but because it powers companies. Marketing brings in revenue, which in turn not only pays for the running of a company but also it's profit. It powers capitalism with stories told in words, pictures, and connections. I couldn't resist the siren call of being involved in something creative with that amount of power.
Idealism aside, marketing is a tool that has to be wielded wisely and that means not just understanding, but using it. I've done my best through my experiences as an intern as well as promoting my own freelance content in news and fiction. Up to now, I've been relying on my instinct and Millennial understanding of the Internet and online marketing. This blog is an attempt to alter that by posting plans and KPIs to help keep myself accountable, archive information, and share key leanings.
I'm shaping a story of promotion and I can't wait to see how it ends.
