I actually skipped week 5? That is, I didn't do anything for both this, my accountability blog, for the the blog I'm driving traffic to, Fulfilling Dreams, aside from my normal social media posts and a post reviewing my favorite book read in January. (Our Beautiful Child by Annalisa Crawford, if you're interested.)
Why didn't I do anything?
I forgot.
Following this marketing plan takes time, and it's not fun time. It's actually a chore. Maybe it would be different if it was a regular habit, like posting on social media or writing new blog posts, but it's not. Things change, shift, and some of what I'm doing I'm not sure are 1) working in my case or 2) would work ever unless you have a corporate budget. What did I read in one of my textbooks - the best way to change someone's behavior is to make the adjustment small and show a quick benefit to it? Well, Gardner's outline here is neither small or giving me a raise in my main KPIs - social followers or sales. Hmm, maybe I should keep track of visitor stats too, just to see if things are happening there that I'm not noticing.
Regardless, I now have a handy-dandy app that's super annoying and reminds me every 90 minutes to do something that I can set to repeat on a period basis. It yelled at me all day yesterday and today to post this, so hopefully my phone can now keep me on track. I knew there was a good reason I called it JARVIS.
On to week 5!
Social
Goals for followers: Twitter 118, Pinterest 55, Google+ 99, Facebook 15, Tumblr 4. On top of this, this week I'm supposed to develop a twitter following. I'm going to peg that down as a task for the true noobs, which I'm not since I already have 100+ followers. However, I will take Gardner's advice to follow a few more people whom the site recommends for me.
Organic Search
Here's another item that doesn't quite fit my writing blog - making sure the content architecture of my blog fits my target keywords. Granted, this makes a lot sense for niche blogs build around keywords, but Fulfilling Dreams doesn't really have one. Which could be a problem on my end - being too broad. Or I just need to talk more about my writing subjects to bring in those readers instead of just using the writing process and monthly book reviews. *sigh* One of these days, I'll build a keyword site specifically tailored with SEO and SEM in mind attacking long tail words where I can slowly update it with evergreen pages and attempt to gain passive income from banner ads/adsense/affiliates. But that's a slightly different tactic when doing these tasks, though the tasks would be very similar I expect.
For this week though, I'll make a hub page for popular content, not just my banner on the side.
