Opps, realized I never posted the plan for Week 10. That's because it was just one task - Tweet at the time when my followers are active.
Social
Follower count: Google+ 100 (+1) Twitter 122 (+2) Tumblr 9 (+1) Pinterest 56 (+1) Facebook 18 (same).
In addition to updated follower counts, I went really into my analytics this week. The A-to-Z Challenge (that Fulfilling Dreams is participating in) had a kick off on Monday with the true event starting April 1st. I know my comment count jumped, but I wanted to see what else happened this week. (I love comparing time periods.) And then for the week 10 twitter goal, I dived into my Twitter stats that I....sadly haven't even looked at before.
GA and Webmaster stats
I didn't compare back-to-back weeks, because I realized from the 15th to the 21st I hadn't actually posted a blog. So I compared March 8th-14th to the 22nd-28th. Each week had one post, but the later was a Challenge post and the former a flash fiction piece.
Sessions: +800% Users: +786% Pageviews: +964% Pages/Session: +18% Avg Session: +646%
Bounce Rate: -24% %New Session: +111%
Most of the new traffic came from America, but I also picked up traffic from new countries. Namely Italy and Russia. As far as demographics go, I definitely got a boost from the Challenge. But how did they find me?
Referral: +2,850% Social: +100% Direct: +50% Organic Search: - 50%
Most people found me through referrals. Which is pretty common for Fulfilling Dreams. The bounce rate for referral traffic went down 29%, so I became more relevant to where I'm linked from. Which makes sense, since most of those referrals came from the Challenge's website.
My bounce rate from direct traffic increased though, so those who came to me through the address bar left faster. I'm gonna peg these guys as readers who have no interest in the Challenge. That's okay. My new readers more than made up for it.
(Though, of my two GA goals, only one increased between the weeks. That is, number of pages visited per session And it was for the most part the same two pages. Landing on the home page and going to the Challenge post, or landing on the Challenge post and going to the home page).
Because my social search went up, I looked up what keywords were driving traffic via Webmasters. (I can't compare dates there, so I just looked at data for the 22nd-28th.) I expected the Challenge to be on that list, but the highest impressions and clicks came from "seraphina", no doubt for the book review I did of the book with the same title. My highest CTR % came from " seraphina rachel hartman español" and my search rank for "seraphina novel" is 3.6. It's 11 for "seraphina". This shows that my book reviews are actually driving more traffic than I expected, even 2 weeks after they're publicized. I'm getting on Google's first page of search results with them. No easy feat.
(My highest ranking? 1. It's a tie between "richard castle" [for an image] and "how hot is dragon fire". That dragon post from years ago has a lot of traction.)
Twitter stats
Twitter gave me some good base lines, but I can only look at stuff on a month bases. Apparently my tweets got 1.1K impressions in March, with an average of 37. More than my blog, come to think about it :/ And a pretty low engagement %, of 1.4. I did notice however that using hashtags increased engagement and impressions, so I'll have to use more of those instead of just making statements.
Also interesting how my most seen tweet had the most impressions the morning after I posted it. That is, I posted at 4:30 pm on Monday and the most hits was 7 am Tuesday. I suppose that might be a time difference thing for those who are in a different zone. Especially now that Twitter has that 'while you were away' feature.
Did all this help me figure out when people are active? Sorta. The morning in general tends to lead to the most views, be it 7 or 10am. So I should try to post then and not after dinner.
